IMODIUM MEDICINE

Ingredients: 
Loperamide HCl 2mg, sufficient excipients. 

Indications:
Symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in adults and children 12 years of age and older
Symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea episodes associated with irritable syndrome in adults 18 years of age and older The doctor makes a preliminary diagnosis.

Contraindications: 
- Do not use for children under 12 years old and the elderly.
- Do not use in patients with acute ulcerative colitis or pseudomembranous colitis caused by broad-spectrum antibiotics.
- Patients with acute dysentery, characterized by blood in stools and high fever.
- Patients with acute ulcerative colitis.
- Patients with enteritis caused by invasive bacteria.
- Avoid inhibiting intestinal motility. Must stop immediately when intestinal obstruction, constipation, or abdominal distention occurs.

Dosage and usage:
Adults:
- Acute diarrhea: First dose is 2 tablets then 1 tablet after each loose stool. The maximum daily dose for acute and chronic diarrhea is 6 tablets per day.
- Acute diarrhea associated with irritable syndrome in adults 18 years of age and older: 
 Initial dose is 2 tablets/day, then 1 tablet after each loose stool or as directed by a physician. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 6 capsules.

Possible side effects:
Abdominal pain or discomfort, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, drowsiness or dizziness, dry mouth.

Precautions:
- In patients with diarrhea, dehydration and electrolyte loss may occur. In this case, appropriate rehydration and electrolyte therapy is the most important measure.
- In patients with acute diarrhea, if clinical improvement does not occur within 48 hours, Imodium should not be continued but the cause of diarrhea must be re-considered.
- Patients with liver dysfunction must be closely monitored for signs of central nervous system toxicity due to phase 1 metabolism. -
AIDS patients taking this drug to treat diarrhea must stop taking the drug at the first sign of symptoms. especially stomach bloating.
